The Design Process

  • Generally, the initial consultation meeting is done over the phone and is free of charge. This is an opportunity for us to discuss your property, your landscaping needs, and any thoughts and ideas that you may already have for your space.

    After the phone consultation, I will provide you with the Design Fee based on the size and scope of your project. If you decide to move forward with the design process, we will set up a mutually convenient time for the initial site visit.

    During the initial site visit, a full assessment of the property will be done. Detailed measurements will be taken, many photos, and many, many notes. Depending on the size of your property this can take anywhere from 2-4 hours. It is not necessary for the homeowner to be present for this site assessment. Any questions I may have after the site visit can be discussed over the phone or by email.

    Site Visit Fee: $150

  • This is where the fun begins! Generally, I require a two-week lead time from the time of the on-site visit, to the 1st Draft Meeting. In this meeting we will look at the rough concept design plan (in printed format) and some idea photos and options for possible materials (sometimes digital). This stage of the design process is more to determine the final layout and division of spaces…it is the “bones” of the project. At this stage, we will also discuss the finer details for the planting plan: colour scheme, likes, dislikes and level of maintenance.

    1st Draft & Revision Meeting Fees: $500-$1200

    **Fees are dependent on size of property and scope of project and will be determined during initial consultation.

  • I generally require a one week lead-time following the 1st Draft & Revision meeting. At this stage in the process, we will meet to look over the revised drawings in printed format. This version of your plan will include any changes that were decided on in the 1st Draft meeting and a completed Planting Plan. Sometimes there are minor adjustments made in this meeting, but often it is simply the ‘sign-off’ on the final design plan.

    At this meeting, I would welcome your Contractor (if you already have one), as it presents an opportunity to meet together and discuss any foreseeable challenges from the ‘Build’ perspective. Some designs will have small adjustments when translating from the page to the physical world, but ALL are solvable with good communication between all parties.

    Final Design Meeting & Sign-Off Fees: $75-$150

    (Contingent on scope of additional client and/or contractor revision requests.)

  • Once the final Design meeting is complete, I will provide the client with large format drawings of their final Design Plan and a separate drawing of the detailed Planting Plan. I will also provide some 11x17 copies for Contractor and Crew to have on-hand for notes and reference during the build phase.
